Warm fall.

I shouldn't complain about how warm the weather is but I've been struggling with the fact I've tired of my summer pieces. However, I now think I need to pull some of my shorts and dresses out of storage. Some great transitioning inspiration here. Love the last mash up, plaid and summer dress is brilliant.

Alexa Chung's Top Picks for Madewell.

Alexa Chung takes you through her top picks from her recent Madewell collection in this cute little film from Refinery 29.  Although her line was only released last week I am not too sure what's left to purchase. Shortly after the collection was launched Madewell's site crashed due to the mad rush of eager buyers. Either way I think Alexa is a riot to watch, I love seeing what she's wearing and I love hearing her take on just about anything.

You can view the film here!

In the trenches.

Trenches are the perfect blank canvas. You can dress them up, dress them down, cut them in half, or cut off their sleeves. They work with pretty much anything and you find them pretty much anywhere.  Currently I am digging the combo of the traditional trench (Zara's version shown above) with my sporty neon Nikes.  It's a nice little twist without the use of scissors.

Thunder Perfect Mind.

Thunder Perfect Mind was a short film created in 2005 to launch Prada's first fragrance. I was recently introduced to the film by coming across its photo stills, which are as gorgeous as the film itself. Miuccia Prada said she wanted to do something more than the "standard TV commercial" so she solicited the help of Jordan Scott and her father Ridley Scott to help direct and create the piece. The result is one of the more stunning fashion films I've ever seen. The architecture, the clothing, the music, the voice over, all of it perfectly styled and so well executed.

When noted that the Prada Brand was not revealed until the final shot. Miuccia had this to say about the piece: “This is not a branding exercise. I never in my life thought about Prada as a brand. In our company that word isn’t banned exactly but it isn’t used. No-one talks about it that way. We talk about doing something well. It sounds stupid but it’s probably the secret of our success."

September street style.

Some recent street style shots that caught my eye. I'm happy we're starting to pull out the warmer stuff.

Christopher Kane. S/S 2012.

Christopher Kane's S/S show caused quite a commotion over the weekend. To many it was a big favorite of the week and reportedly some audience goers were even brought to tears.  I am not one who indulges too much in precious clothes but my jaw couldn't help but drop at how stunning his pieces were. The gorgeous brocade fabric was wallpaper inspired Kane says, however it reminded me of the evening wear my grandmother owned from the 60s. Beautiful structured silver brocade jackets and dresses I now wish were in my own closet.  Kane's collection brought a wonderful modernity to the embellished evening look. The most surprising twist of course was his incorporation of the material with pool sandals. Yes, rubber pool sandals.  I definitely didn't see that one coming when I viewed in on the details.

80s Denim. S/S 2012.

ACNE S/S 2012
3.1 Phillip Lim S/S 2012
Christopher Kane S/S 2012

There seems to be a fair bit of 80s inspired denim on both the New York and London S/S 2012 runways. The nice thing about this retro style of denim is that it's super easy to find second hand or create yourself. It's not a super expensive look to replicate, especially if you already own a BeDazzler.

There are lots of sites that provide fashion week photo coverage but one of my favorite resources is the New York Times Magazine's Photos of the Moment. Their photographers capture such beautiful close up details of the clothing, subtleties you just can't pick up from the Style.com straight ahead runway shots. Their backstage coverage also gives you a more real life, everyday sense of the clothing as well as a fun inside glimpse at how much effort it takes to get these girls onto the runway. The photos I posted are much larger when viewed on their site directly so I highly recommend you check them out, they capture some really interesting and beautiful moments.
